A moisturiser is a product that is used by most people every day to keep their skin hydrated and healthy.

The Egyptians were one of the first civilizations to use hydrating creams for this reason, because they lived in the desert and needed to protect themselves from the sun.

Moisturisers have been around for a long time, first used by the ancient civilizations as a way to protect their skin from harsh sunlight, but they only became popular in the early 1900s. In that century, women were often expected to do more housework and less outdoor activities, which caused their skin to become dry, and their hands cracked from washing clothes with soap. Back then, there were no moisturisers on the market so it was difficult for them to find an appropriate solution for their problems.

In the 1920s, a new type of moisturiser was introduced named Vaseline that could help heal chapped skin, however,  it was not until several decades later that more advanced products were developed.

Moisturisers work to hydrate and nourish the skin.

They contain ingredients that can help maintain the natural protective barrier of the skin.

A moisturiser is a lotion or cream that is used to prevent the occurrence of dry skin, as well as help relieve of existing dry skin conditions. They work by helping to balance the water in our skin to stay inside our skin instead of being drawn out, which in turn helps maintain a healthy level of hydration in our cells. These advanced products can also help protect against environmental factors such as pollution and UV rays that can cause some serious dryness and irritation.

Moisturising is an essential step for any self-care routine because it’s one of the main ways we can take care of our skin - our largest organ!

Moisturisers are more than just a cosmetic product; they are indeed very beneficial for our skin.

The first reason for that is that they seal the skin so it can retain its water and oil content. This is important because if we wouldn’t moisturise, the moisture content would evaporate and leave our skin feeling dry and tight. The second reason is that moisturisers protect our skin from harsh outside elements like wind, cold air or sunburn.

When we use moisturiser, the water in the product binds to our skin. This forms a barrier that protects the skin from moisture loss. This is vitally important because it keeps the skin hydrated and helps to maintain the skin’s elasticity. It also prevents premature wrinkles, dark spots and dry patches.

Skin dryness is a very common complaint of people battling dermatological conditions, but it can also be related to ageing.

Dryness may lead to itching, scaling and cracking of the skin. These are the two main reasons why using a good hydrating oil or cream is important for people with these conditions. Many factors go into making a good product.

Moisturisers are specially designed for the purpose of helping the skin retain its moisture content and prevent dryness, flaking, and irritation. A mix of people with all different skin types can use them, however, they may have different properties depending upon the skin type they are designed for. Some of those properties can include pH balance, the number of emollients or humectants in the cream or oil, any anti-inflammatory ingredients, and ingredients that can help reduce free radicals caused by pollution or stress.

Moisturisers come in many varieties for many skin types.

Some are designed specifically for sensitive or dry skin and may therefore not contain harsh chemicals or fragrances.

There are also anti-ageing moisturisers that typically use peptides for stimulating the production of collagen. They follow the same principle as sunscreen and prevent moisture from leaving the skin, which creates an even surface so the skin does not feel dry.

It is said that we are what we eat, but also what we put onto our skin! Many in-store moisturisers contain chemicals such as Parabens and Fragrances that are really not very healthy for our skin. These ingredients may cause skin irritation or allergies and in some cases even cancer. There are often further additives like Sodium Laureth Sulfate (SLS) which is used as a foaming agent and has been linked to cancer and Alzheimer’s Disease.

A healthy alternative!

There are organic moisturisers that include pure natural oils that replace lotions that may cause potentially dangerous side effects. Organic moisturisers are better because they are made out of natural ingredients. Moreover, they don't have any harsh or harmful chemicals." As a general rule for avoiding these damaging chemicals, it is best to opt for using organic creams that help our skin feel hydrated but without the risk of having an adverse reaction to it.

Our skin is a living and breathing thing and absorbs most of the things we put onto it. So, if you are using a moisturiser that contains toxic ingredients, the chemicals in that will be absorbed by the skin and will enter the body. In contrast, natural ingredients are not harmful to the body and will be absorbed by the skin without any side effects. The best natural moisturisers are usually made using organic substances that have been grown or extracted naturally. These won’t contain any chemicals or harmful ingredients that could cause harmful side effects when applied to the skin.

For best results, it would be of importance to select a moisturiser based on your particular skin type. There are many benefits to moisturising, but there are also many things you must know about moisturisers before using them for the first time. For example, not all are suitable for sensitive skin. If you have eczema or dermatitis, it is best to avoid thick products with added oils as they may cause further irritation.

It is an important element of a skincare routine to be aware that when the skin's moisture levels are low, the skin becomes irritated, red and itchy. This can then subsequently lead to premature ageing of the skin or acne. Therefore, as a number one beauty rule, it is important after cleansing to moisturise the skin every day using a product that suits your individual skin type.

In Summary: Moisturising is the simple act of applying moisturiser to the skin. Moisturisers are used to prevent skin from drying out, peeling, or cracking due to various environmental conditions. These oils and creams are also advised for people with dry skin, acne-prone skin, sensitive skin, eczema and psoriasis. The daily ritual of moisturising helps to improve the overall appearance of the skin by nourishing it and thereby reducing wrinkles and making it much smoother. It is also helpful for those people with light or fair complexion as it prevents sunburns.

Moisturise regularly

When it comes to skincare, the only thing that everyone agrees on is that we should moisturise regularly, regardless of oily or dry skin, or whether sensitive skin or acne-prone skin is present, whether the skin is a combination of types or simply normal skin type – moisturizing and hydrating the skin is super important.

Moisturisers are essential in preventing inflammation, rehydrating the skin and boosting elasticity. They also help protect against environmental damage and prevent excess oil production by the skin itself.

There are many different types of moisturisers out in the market to suit the different needs of people, so it’s vitally important to find one that works for your skin type. Moisturisers work by filling in the gaps between the dead skin cells on our skin's surface with moisture from inside out, so new cells can replace the old dead ones. They also help us protect our skin from external factors and the elements such as wind, rain, sun, hot and cold temperatures.

Although it’s important to not neglect any of your skin, the face is where it counts most in terms of ageing. So do yourself a big favour and start early with a regular and healthy cosmetic regime. Your skin will really thank you in the years to come.

How does it work

The natural oils in Avocado deeply penetrate the skin, thus helping to lock in moisture, balancing oil production, and supporting natural skin cell repair. Powerful antioxidant properties of this oil may reduce fine lines and wrinkles and help to keep skin smooth and boost skin's immunity against stress and other environmental factors.

Grapeseed is ranking number one as a beauty oil that suits all types of skin and is low comedogenic. It is naturally filled with antioxidants and polyphenols like vitamin C, vitamin E, Omega-3, 6, and 9 fatty acids that make it absolutely efficacious in supporting and relieving acne, wrinkles, and fine lines. It may be helpful in clearing hyperpigmentation of skin to bring eventually a lightening complexion.

Patchouli In 2014 Researchers confirmed the potential protective effects of Patchouli when it comes to wrinkle formation and the loss of collagen in the skin. Particular active compounds were found that may help to stimulate muscle contractions to eliminate fine lines and wrinkles.
