How does it work

Coconut oil has been linked to some potential benefits for skin, including sensitive areas, by helping to reduce irritations, redness, itchiness, keeping skin moisturised, and helping elasticity of the tissue as we mature. The medium-chain fatty acids found in coconut oil also possess antimicrobial properties that can help to protect from harmful bacteria. It helps to keep connective tissue strong and supple. Almost half of the fat in coconut is lauric acid, which helps destroy active bacteria in the stomach and mouth, which are mucous membrane areas similar to the intimate area.

Jojoba oil   Is one of the treasures of nature and is packed with vitamin E and B, along with minerals like copper and zinc, it sinks deep into the skin. It is unique among the plant-based oils in that it’s quite similar to the composition of human sebum, making it perfect for dry and dehydrated skin. This oil is rich in natural fats that mimic those in the outer layer of human skin. This means it can help the skin retain moisture and heal itself and even improve natural fluid retention.

Sandalwood  Has a soothing, moistening character to the tissue and relieves irritation and itchiness to mucous membranes. Being a natural demulcent it soothes and relieves irritated over/underactive mucous membranes, improves sexual discomfort, and helps to balance hormones. When mucous membranes have dried out, sandalwood helps to soothe and re-moisturize those areas and help to make one feel comfortable.

Geranium  Geraniol an active component of Geranium showed inhibited bacterial growth, and yeast growth in mice. Based on these findings, it is estimated that the vaginal application of geranium oil suppressed bacterial growth in the vagina and reduced irritation and itching. It also can bring potent moisturizing benefits to those areas.

Patchouli might support libido during menopause and help to combat vaginal dryness and other sexual changes that are common during menopause and make sex less enjoyable. A 2018 study concluded that treatment with a combination involving lavender, geranium, and patchouli significantly improved human sexual function and helped vaginal dryness.

Peppermint Essential oils are entirely plant-based, and some contain phytoestrogens. Some experts believe that essential oils containing phytoestrogens may help balance hormones and relieve symptoms such as mood changes and hot flashes during menopause. Peppermint especially may reduce discomfort when experiencing hot flashes. It provides a cooling effect on the skin when applied and is antibacterial.

Intimate Balance as a Thrush treatment

Intimate Balance is a natural thrush treatment from NZ. It's a unique blend of herbs and essential oils, proven to support the healing of infection soothes and flourishes wounded and damaged tissues and reduce the intensity and duration of thrush symptoms.

Intimate Balance is favoured by many women displaying related symptoms of thrush as their preferred natural thrush treatment in NZ.

For the most effective thrush treatment in NZ, it is imperative to first get rid of the yeast infection and help the body to re-flourish the damaged tissue. The Purely Essential locally handmade remedies take charge of this task in an organic and gentle manner.

We have put together some of the most frequent asked questions and answers on how to use Intimate Balance for a fast and effective thrush treatment in NZ at home:

Q: Can Intimate Balance be used after a course of antibiotics?

A: Yes, it is safe to use Intimate Balance thrush treatment after a course of antibiotics. It is especially important to understand that antibiotics destroy the ‘good’ as well as the ‘bad’ bacteria, which in turn is often leading to fungal overgrowth (Candida). Hence, it is best to first choose natural remedies like the Intimate Balance when taking any type of medication for this problem.

Q: Can I use Intimate Balance while breastfeeding?

A: While we recommend caution with stronger essential oils during pregnancy due to the possible crossing of the placenta barrier, most essential oils used after pregnancy during lactation are considered safe e.g. true Lavender and are often used by midwives during and after labour with positive effects.

Q: What happens if the use of Intimate Balance is discontinued after only a few days?

A: If for some reason it is decided to discontinue the treatment, arrangements to use a different product are recommended, because if the fungal overgrowth remains or returns, it will then likely be resistant to natural remedies such as Intimate Balance and may well come back stronger than before.

Q: Is it advisable to wait until all thrush is gone before beginning a new treatment with Intimate Balance again?

A: It is best to start treatment as soon as the first signs of thrush symptoms such as itching, soreness or discharge are detected. This will help to control yeast overgrowth and will help a shorter duration of recovery.

Intimate Balance as a Haemorrhoids treatment

Estimates show that over half of the world's population will experience a haemorrhoids problem at some point in their lifetime. What is the cause of haemorrhoids? The answer is not as straightforward as assumed. There are several factors, including genetics, diet and lifestyle habits, constipation, pregnancy or even heavy lifting that can play a role.

Q: What are haemorrhoids?

A: Haemorrhoids are swollen veins in or around the anus. They often swell after straining during a bowel movement. Haemorrhoids can also occur within the anal canal without being visible externally altogether and are known as internal haemorrhoids.

Q: What are the common symptoms of haemorrhoids?

A: The most common symptoms of haemorrhoids are, a small but painful lump appearing on the skin near the anus, itching or irritation around the area, bright red blood visible on the toilet tissue, the toilet or on the skin near the anus after a bowel movement. The aim here is to have softer stools rather than hard stools, as persistent straining during bowel movements will make the condition worse.

Q: How can haemorrhoids be diagnosed?

A: A visit to the doctor will be able to identify and diagnose haemorrhoids after performing an examination that is checking for lumps that can be seen or felt around the anus. The doctor may also do a rectal exam using a gloved finger to identify any internal swellings and lumps. This is to ensure clearance of any other problems in that area.

Q: What are haemorrhoids caused by?

A: Most commonly it is prolonged and repeated straining during bowel movements due to constipation or hard stools that may cause increased pressure on abdominal and pelvic veins. Certain genes in people or weakened vein walls may also contribute to the likelihood of getting haemorrhoids. Then others can be caused by prolonged periods of sitting. Examples of this would be an all-day desk job or a long car journey without breaks. The following factors may also contribute to chronic straining during bowel movements:

Being overweight, suffering from certain conditions like heart disease, kidney disease, liver cirrhosis or for example pregnancy. Ill-health usually slows down the frequency of the passage of stool through the colon and rectum. Another risk factor of developing haemorrhoids would be the smoking and chewing of tobacco, being constipated or having a diet low in fibre that weakens the vein walls and increases the risk of haemorrhoids.

Q: What are the symptoms of haemorrhoids?

A: Some of the more common haemorrhoids symptoms include painless bleeding, itching, irritation, and discomfort around the anus area, with bleeding noticed after passing stool, as well as after wiping with toilet paper. A doctor often uses sigmoidoscopy to determine any internal or external haemorrhoids. Ongoing pain may be experienced due to blood accumulation in the swollen veins, apart from some people not experiencing any signs or symptoms of haemorrhoids at all in cases of internal ones within the anal canal. External haemorrhoids might be easily noticed when wiping clean after a bowel movement with blood showing on the toilet paper or small lumps being present that are itchy.

Q: What treatment is available for haemorrhoids?

A: The treatment doctors recommend will depend on the severity of the symptoms of the individual person but will be first and foremost advice on how to avoid chronic constipation, sitting for long periods of time without breaks, or straining during bowel movements. The long-term goal should be to have stools that are soft and formed. A stool softener or laxative may help with this. In the case of mild haemorrhoids, some home treatments may be appropriate and sufficient. Warm sitting baths between 10-20 minutes three to four times a day can ease discomfort and pain especially with chronic and large quantities of haemorrhoids by improving blood flow into the swollen veins. A topical cream containing analgesic menthol administered onto the anal area several times daily will soothe itching and burning.

Q:  Can the recurrence of haemorrhoids be prevented?

A: Once the haemorrhoids have been treated, it is very important to employ methods that prevent a recurrence. This may include avoiding medications that cause constipation, as well as avoiding straining during bowel movements. It is not advisable to sit on the toilet for long periods of time, especially if this causes strain heavily. It is a good idea to try to gently expel stool at least once every couple of days by squatting instead of sitting upright. If any pain or swelling is noticed after having a bowel movement, cold packs on the anal area for about 10 minutes at a time and as needed throughout the day will provide relief.

Q: How to best relieve symptoms experienced by haemorrhoids?

One way to relieve symptoms is to use an anal dilator ointment that can be purchased over-the-counter at your local pharmacy. However, Purely Essential Intimate Balance Recovery is a very effective option for relief when experiencing issues with haemorrhoids. Regular application each morning after showering, as well as the use after each bowel movement, has shown to improve a healthy bacterial balance and drastically reduce problems in the sensitive anal area for long periods.

Intimate Balance Recovery is a product formulated and made to help them relieve the symptoms of haemorrhoids. It's been client tested and found to be effective for people experiencing persistent discomfort, swelling or bleeding around the anus area after sitting for long periods of time, affecting people in industrialized countries where working at a desk all day is common practice.
